The University of Delaware and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) increased food security and reduced poverty through the establishment of smallholder family poultry farms, mainly among poor, rural women. It also resuscitated rotating micro-credit loans to stimulate self-employment opportunities. Partners increased consumption of protein and micro-nutrients such as zinc in the local diet. They collected demographic data on the condition of local villages, including a health survey conducted by accredited nurses from a local hospital.

The partners also held discussion groups at OAU, which resulted in the collection of up-to-date information on food security and infant and maternal nutrition.
