Collection of your Personal Information
HED collects personally identifiable information, such as your email address, name, mailing address or telephone number when you sign up on our site to receive news releases, RFA announcements or HED’s bimonthly newsletter, and when you apply for funding opportunities. When you declare your interest in joining our pool of expert consultants, HED also stores an electronic copy of your curriculum vitae. In addition, HED collects anonymous demographic information that is not unique to you, such as your postal code, your information preferences, and the regions or subject areas in which you are interested.
Information about your computer hardware and software is automatically collected by HED as part of our website analytics. This information can include: your IP address, browser type, domain names, access times and referring website addresses. HED uses this information to gather general statistics about HED website users that allow us to observe trends and patterns, maintain website quality, and plan website enhancements.
Please keep in mind that if you disclose personally identifiable information or personally sensitive data through HED-sponsored public venues, including Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter, this information may be collected and used by others. HED does not read any of your private online communications that may take place through such a venue.
HED encourages you to review the privacy statements of websites you choose to link to from HED so that you can understand how those websites collect, use and share your information. HED is not responsible for the privacy statements or other content provided by websites other than the HED website.
Use of your Personal Information
HED collects and uses the personal information you provide to operate the HED website and deliver the services you have requested. HED also uses your personally identifiable information to inform you of other products or services available from HED. HED staff may search the subset of registered users who have expressed an interest in consulting with HED in order to identify candidates with specific expertise and contact them for consulting opportunities. HED may also contact you via surveys to conduct research about your opinion of current services or determine your interest in potential new services that may be offered.
HED does not sell, rent or lease its subscriber lists to third parties. However, HED may share data with trusted partners to help us perform statistical analysis, send you email or postal mail, provide customer support, or arrange for deliveries. All such third parties are prohibited from using your personal information except to provide these services to HED, and they are required to maintain the confidentiality of your information.
HED does not collect, use or disclose sensitive personal information, such as race, religion, or political affiliations, without your explicit written consent.
HED tracks the pages and websites that users visit while on our website, in order to determine which HED services are the most popular and to develop better ways to provide the information site visitors are seeking.
HED will disclose your personal information, without notice, only if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on HED or the site; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of HED; and, (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of HED, or the public.
Collection and Use of Your Voice and Likeness
HED may obtain images or video recordings of partnership activities in which you have been involved. These images may contain students, other faculty, or members of the public. HED will not distribute these media files in print or over the Internet without the express written consent of all recognizable persons in each photograph, videotape, electronic reproduction or audio recording.
The HED website use "cookies" to help you personalize your online experience. A cookie is a text file that is placed on your hard disk by a web page server. Cookies cannot be used to run programs or deliver viruses to your computer. Cookies are uniquely assigned to you, and can be read only by a web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you.
One of the primary purposes of cookies is to provide a convenience feature that saves you time. The purpose of a cookie is to tell the web server that you have returned to a specific page. For example, if you personalize HED pages, or register with HED site or services, a cookie helps HED to recall your specific information on subsequent visits. This simplifies the process of recording your personal information, such as your mailing address, the name of the institution or organization you represent, and so on. When you return to the HED website, the information you previously provided on our website can be retrieved, so you can easily use the HED features that you customized.
You have the ability to accept or decline cookies by adjusting your browser preferences. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies. If you choose to decline cookies, you may not be able to fully experience the interactive features of the HED services or websites you visit.
Security of your Personal Information
HED secures your personal information from unauthorized access, use or disclosure. HED secures the personally identifiable information you provide on computer servers in a controlled, secure environment, protected from unauthorized access, use or disclosure. When personal information is transmitted to our trusted partners, it is protected through the use of encryption, such as the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol. HED’s trusted partners conform to the regulations established by TRUSTe and/or U.S.-E.U. or U.S.-Switzerland Safe Harbor regulations.
Changes to this Statement
HED will occasionally update this Statement of Privacy to reflect company and customer feedback. HED encourages you to periodically review this Statement to stay informed of how HED is protecting your information.
